Description

Following their previous sold-out season, Phillip Island’s multi-award-winning Offshore Theatre presents another outstanding Australian contemporary play. Adapted for the big screen in the iconic film "Lantana", this compelling piece is not to be missed.

"Speaking in Tongues" is a dramatic, intense piece of drama that is enjoying a revival after 30 years since it began. It will have you absorbed from its seductive opening to climatic end. It is an engaging, multi layered exploration of the human condition.

Premiering in 1996, and now 30 years old, the revival of "Speaking in Tongues" is as mysterious and thrilling as ever. Andrew Bovell’s play explores the connection, trust and morality of human relationships and confronts the consequences of one’s choices.

A woman screams at a man in the street.
A man patiently waits for a fiancé who moves on without him.
A man throws a woman’s shoe into the bush in the middle of the night.

Nine lives weave together in Bovell's masterfully interconnected drama about love, desire, suspicion, and betrayal.

“A play of shimmering, iridescent beauty, revealing the marvellous in the everyday.” – Financial Times
