Description

Artists: Nadine Christensen, Fernando do Campo, Dr Deanne Gilson, Naoise Halloran-Mackay, Tessa Laird. Plus items from the Phillip Island & District Historical Society and the Robert Smith Collection.

This group exhibition brings together Australian contemporary artists who work with birds as subject matter and inspiration. Celebrating the unique and ever-present bird life of Millowl Phillip Island and the Bass Coast region, 'Lovebirds (love, birds)' draws on the cultural significance and history of birds, and our ever-evolving interspecies interactions.

Particularly resonant at this time as we face the impact of H5 bird flu in the region, 'Lovebirds (love, birds)' invites you to reflect on the animals we share our habitat with, and to add your own drawings and letters to birds through Fernando do Campo’s project in the exhibition.

Image: Dr Deanne Gilson, ‘Ngarrimili Porronggitj, Dance of the Brolga’, 2026. Charcoal, 23 karat gold leaf, and acrylic on canvas. 40 x 36 cm. Framed in black sustainable ash.
