About

Jane Clifton: A Day At A Time In Rhyme

Sat 24 Aug | 7:30pm | Berninneit, Cowes

[Live Theatre]

A revealing, riveting performance where nothing is off limits as Jane reflects upon love and death and family, incontinence and wine, war and sex and Vegemite, footy, children, Christmas, Easter, and the best and worst of times while running the entire gamut of reflection, humour, tragedy, wit and whimsy.

A B.A.(1972) graduate from Monash University's halcyon days of sex and demos and rock 'n roll, Jane is a genuine show-business all-rounder. Actress, comedian, singer, writer, poet, painter and marriage celebrant.

From the dim lights of Carlton's La Mama, the Pram Factory, the Flying Trapeze, T.F.Much Ballroom and the Last Laugh Theatre Restaurant Jane went on to found 70’s ground-breaking feminist “new wave” band, Stiletto. This followed by Countdown- era Top 10 singles with Taxi Mary ( w Jo Jo Zep and the Falcons) and Girl On The Wall, before Jane went on to become one of Australian TV’s best-known faces for decades in her role as Margo in Prisoner (Cell Block H).

More recently playing a key role in the smash-hit stage show Menopause – The Musical, and now a published author, with 3 crime novels, here Janes shares reflections from her anthology of poetry A Day At A Time In Rhyme. Supported by sound effects, music pads and projections in a dramatised monologue Jane peels back the layers to share witty – and often poignant – observations, particularly from an older woman’s perspective. Something we far too rarely have the opportunity to hear or see on stage.

“An assured performance… ingenious and striking” - Stage Whispers
